i would like to know if anyone other than my mom thinks it's acceptable to make a zamboni chase a litter of kittens.

----EDIT:

metaphorically. :) (feeling better about it now.) She likes asking me to do one thing, and then while I am deeply mid-task in that singleminded and very steamrolly or ice-smoothy big-machine way I get, ask me to -switch tasks- (and/or multitask) to/with something that has a completely and utterly alien set of rules and practicalities, that would really be best served by a nimble and untiring octopus with a thoroughly elastic physical structure.

It is, but only every fifth leap year, and only in Scandinavia, Italy, and France.

Acceptable? In Canada it's like a national sport.

Only if they're long-haired cats.

Long-haired cats should be zambonied.

It is, by and large, very difficult for people to understand that not everyone's brain works like theirs does.

Your mom's good at dealing with six million things at once. (She has to be - she's a mom!)

You are alternately good at dealing very lightly with sixty things at once, knowing that they won't suffer from being neglected, or very deeply with one. I'm not sure your mom even has that state - I haven't met them both for very long, but from the little exposure I do have, I suspect you get that from your dad. So since it's fairly likely that she doesn't have it ... she's not actually equipped to notice it in somebody else. So she hits it on accident, and then since she doesn't understand it, probably thinks you're just being obstructionist.

Which sucks. Yes.

Alternatively, I may be projecting - Mom and I wound up in that kind of tangle for years on end till very recently, when I could finally wave test scores in her face. ;)
