it's like what happens to kids who read too many comics, they end up writing 'em.

desk grafitti distracts me from class
conversations taking days to complete
as bored students cause idle vandalism
at different points in time on the surface

insults and advertisements, complaints and woes
which garner dime-store psychological advice
from helpful yet uninformed academics;
also doodles both dirty and arcane, or abstract

twisted corporate jingles which seem clever
add yet another level of mundane humor
to the classically juvenile musings there
desk reflecting patterns of thought ages old

my poor elitist mind craves stimulation
more multilayered than a television show
but finds only the inane scrawlings of kids
raised on educational programming and MTV

somehow these ancient lovenotes and jokes
dirty drawings and cannabis sketches
sorority letters, sports and corporate logos
wrench a reaction from me and i guiltily join in.
